THE ALARIO EVENT CENTER & SEGNETTE FIELD at the Bayou Segnette Sports Complex
Nestled adjacent to Bayou Segnette State Park, the Bayou
Segnette Sports Complex is located only minutes from New Orleans’
central business district and the historic French Quarter via the
Crescent City Connection Bridge. The John A. Alario Sr. Event Center is
the premier sports and event facility in the Greater New Orleans area.
Opening its doors in 1999, the Alario Center is designated to be an
amateur sports complex and a multi-purpose facility, which has rapidly
become the hub of social and cultural activity on the West Bank of the
mighty Mississippi River. The Alario Center also currently serves as the practice facility of the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets and Segnette Field serves as the home to Loyola University’s Wolfpack baseball program. The complex is a joint venture between the State of Louisiana, Jefferson Parish, and Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District (LSED).
The LSED is a state agency/political subdivision comprised of seven
members appointed by the governor. The board's primary purpose is to
plan, finance, construct, develop, maintain and operate facilities
located within the District for events of public interest. The LSED is
responsible for the John A. Alario Sr. Event Center, Louisiana
Superdome, New Orleans Arena, New Orleans Saints Training Facility, TPC
Louisiana, and Zephyr Field. To learn more about the LSED click on the

Hosting Local, National, and International Events
From basketball and volleyball tournaments, high school graduations, weddings and baby showers, the Alario Center provides a facility for locals to showcase their most important events. The Center also hosts trade shows, theatrical performances, concerts, carnival balls and fund-raisers. The Alario Center serves as a community center and is the only facility like this on the Westbank.
In addition to hosting local community events, the Alario Center sets the stage for numerous regional, national and international sporting events. The men’s and women’s U.S. Olympic Weightlifting Trials, a nationally televised event, was held at the Center on July 22, 2000. The winners of the event competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
The Center has also hosted girls’ basketball tournaments, with teams competing from countries ranging from Puerto Rico to Finland. The Alario Center has the ability to bring an international audience to Jefferson Parish.
The Alario Center and Segnette Field bring a substantial economic impact to Jefferson Parish. Working together with the Jefferson Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Alario Center is able to bring people to Jefferson Parish, put them in hotels, get them in restaurants, have them visit the malls, and have them visit tourist attractions.
Making Jefferson Parish a Better Place
One of the unique features of the Alario Center is its 30,240 square feet of column-free, hardwood-maple floor space, as well as its 2,400 theater-type seats. It is the premier sports and event facility in Louisiana.
The Center has 10 full-time
employees, an on-site caterer, a full-service kitchen, and three concession
stands, as well as three meeting rooms totaling 4,675 square feet. Segnette
Field, which opened in 2002, seats over 600 baseball fans and in 2003 became the
home of Loyola University Baseball.
